Industrial Hardware Integration Intern — Embedded Systems & Industrial Components - Stage

Company:  Trosort

Role:  Industrial Hardware Integration Intern (Embedded Systems)

Commitment:  Minimum 4 months

Location:  Brussels and surroundings

1. The Mission

Trosort is revolutionizing the second-hand clothing industry. Our  SortMate  machines use computer vision and AI to sort garments at industrial speeds. Your mission is to focus on the industrial integration of hardware components, sensors, and embedded systems onto our SortMate sorting lines, in a real production environment. You will also contribute to a parallel R&D track, exploring new hardware directions alongside the core product.

2. Your Responsibilities

• Industrial Integration:  Integrate industrial components — sensors, actuators, and embedded boards — onto R&D and production sorting lines.
• Communication Protocols:  Ensure reliable communication between components using industrial protocols (e.g. Modbus, profinet).
• Robustness Testing:  Test the reliability of these integrations under continuous, real production conditions.
• Embedded Debugging:  Debug embedded systems at both the hardware and firmware level.
• Cross-Team Collaboration:  Work closely with the software and computer vision teams to ensure seamless end-to-end integration.
• R&D Exploration:  Contribute to a parallel R&D track, developing new hardware directions beyond the core production line.
• Documentation:  Document every integration, design choice, and test result for maintainability.

3. Technical Requirements

We are looking for a hands-on engineering student ready to work directly on industrial production lines.

• Background:  Electronics, electromechanical, or industrial engineering.
• Coding:  Proficiency in  Python  is a must.
• Experience:  Significant prior experience in industrial integration of sensors and components is a strong plus.
• Embedded Know-How:  Solid understanding of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
• Protocols:  Familiarity with industrial communication protocols is a plus.
• Attitude:  Practical, autonomous, and eager to work directly on the shop floor.

4. Why Join Trosort?

• Real-World Hardware:  Work on an industrial product combining hardware, AI, and robotics.
• Direct Impact:  Your work will run directly on SortMate production sorting lines.
• Mentorship:  Work directly with Hugo, Trosort's Hardware Lead.

5. How to Apply

If you've got hands-on experience with industrial integration, embedded systems, or hardware projects, we want to hear from you.
