The role

The FT is looking for a dynamic and ambitious journalist to join our Brussels Bureau and commission, edit and contribute to our agenda-setting Europe Express newsletter. 

The newsletter, which is published Monday to Friday, is a premium subscriber product highly valued for its authoritative coverage of both the EU institutions and European countries. It reaches key decision-makers and global readers seeking to understand the continent’s dynamic news flow. With insight and exclusive reporting, it covers economic and foreign policy, national politics in individual countries and key legislative developments in Brussels. 

As its editor, you will work closely with Henry Foy, the lead writer of Europe Express and Brussels bureau chief. You will be expected to follow political debates, policy-making processes and economic developments in multiple countries to generate ideas for content. 

You will also be expected to write for the newsletter regularly, and to be a fully-fledged reporter in the Brussels Bureau with dedicated beats  – generating scoops and story ideas for our broader coverage of EU affairs and writing longer feature articles. 

Key skills:

• Strong editing and organisational skills

• Ability to respond quickly to a changing news agenda 

• Attention to detail is essential in this role

• Demonstrable knowledge of how the EU works

• Keen interest in politics and economics across Europe

• Proficiency in French or German would be an advantage

The post will create opportunities for you to write on EU matters for other sections of the FT, working in conjunction with the Brussels bureau.

This job is based in Brussels, working from Sunday to Thursday.

FT Newsroom staff are expected to work onsite a minimum of three days per week, subject to role requirements and regular review. While flexible working requests will be considered, not all patterns are suitable for Editorial roles.
