Engineering Consultant (m/v)

VIB is a leading life sciences research institute in Flanders, Belgium, with a strong focus on translating basic scientific discoveries into benefits for society. We are now looking for an Large Language Model (LLM) engineer to join the Machine Learning Expertise Unit at VIB.As an LLM Engineer, you will:
Develop and deploy pilot projects in close collaboration with and tailored to VIB’s domain-specific centers, applying LLMs to cutting-edge biomedical questions.

Design, implement, and evaluate LLM-based solutions for tasks such as scientific text mining, multimodal integration of literature and biological data, and knowledge extraction to support discovery.

Promote ethical, transparent, and responsible use of LLMs in line with best practices and international standards

Leverage VIB’s Data Core services, including high-performance computing pipelines and large-scale GPU resources, to scale LLM development and deployment.

PhD in machine learning, computer science, computational biology, statistics, or a related field.

Strong experience with large language models, including pretraining, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and evaluation.

Experience with real-world applications of LLMs in scientific or biomedical contexts is a plus.
